Akmal and Shehzad part of probables for Sri Lanka series
Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad have been selected among the list of 20 probables announced for the six limited-overs fixtures against Sri Lanka later this month. The decision to induct the duo has raised a lot of eyebrows given their past track record with the national side.
Akmal last turned up in national colors in March earlier this year against Australia where he failed to make hefty contributions and was not included in the World Cup squad as a result. Meanwhile, Shehzad, whose career has been plagued by disciplinary issues and inconsistent form, last represented Pakistan in a T20I against Scotland last year.
Akmal and Shehzad will now partake in the training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore before the final T20I and ODI squads scheduled to be announced on September 21.
Sarfaraz Ahmed (c & wk), Babar Azam (vc), Abid Ali, Ahmed Shehzad, Asif Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, Umar Akmal, Usman Shinwari and Wahab Riaz
Shehzad’s prospects of making the cut for the final squad seem brighter given Fakhar Zaman’s torrid form in recent times while Akmal’s reputation of being a power-hitter in the middle-order could help him make a comeback for the Sri Lanka series in Karachi and Lahore.
