Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma has been in the news of late due to the debate on his place in the Test side as many believe that the flamboyant white ball genius has been ignored from the premier format for far too long. Former Australian opener Adam Gilchrist believes that Rohit Sharma could become a world-class Test opener if he really wants to since he has all the ingredients to become an opener in the longer format.
“When the Indian team is playing at home, Rohit can most definitely play as an opener. It might be more challenging when touring Australia, South Africa and England. There is no reason why Rohit can’t be successful in Test cricket,” he added.
However, Gilchrist has also said that the flamboyant opening batsman must change his mindset to succeed at the Test arena as things are always quite challenging in different playing conditions especially on overseas tours.
