Afghan team celebrates victory in unique style

Afghanistan were down in the doldrums in the first round of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. In danger of not even qualifying for the Super Sixes after 3 consecutive losses, the Afghan side truly needed something special to pull through the tournament.

Withstanding the weight of the defeats, the Afghan players came back even stronger as they completed a dramatic turnaround to ultimately win the tournament and seal a berth in the World Cup 2019. Led by Asghar Stanikzai returning from an appendicitis surgery, Afghanistan stole the show with some sublime performances.

Celebrating the momentous triumph over the West Indies in the final, the team members were seen engaging in the cultural ‘attan’ dance. Dubbed by coach Phil Simmons as the ‘Champions dance’, the Afghan players circled around the trophy showing their moves.
