Kandy Tuskers sign Dale Steyn for Lanka Premier League
Dale Steyn has confirmed he will turn out for Kandy Tuskers in the inaugural Lanka Premier League (LPL), adding depth to the team's pace bowling stocks.
The legendary South African fast bowler was recently in action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he played three games for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Steyn's induction in the Tuskers' line-up comes in the aftermath of foreign recruit Sohail Tanvir testing positive for coronavirus.
Tanvir, along with Canada batsman Ravinderpal Singh, tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday after arriving in Sri Lanka and will now have to undergo a two-week quarantine before being allowed to link up with the team.
Kandy are also without the services of T20 maestro Chris Gayle, who pulled out of the tournament due to injury woes.
Steyn will partner with former India quicks Munaf Patel and Irfan Pathan and experienced Sri Lanka bowler Nuwan Pradeep to make up for a resourceful pace attack.
"See you soon Sri Lanka Flag of Sri Lanka. I’ll be joining up with my team Kandy Tuskers later this week. Should be fun to see old friends and compete in some good cricket!," Steyn wrote on Twitter.
Steyn, 37, played his last international match against Australia earlier this year in February but was not selected for South Africa's upcoming white-ball assignment against England.
Although having retired from Test cricket, Steyn has continued to express his eagerness to don the national jersey in the shorter formats and has targetted a spot in the Proteas team for next year's T20 World Cup.
