Mohammad Amir, Haris Sohail make themselves unavailable for England tour
Mohammad Amir and Haris Sohail have pulled out of the forthcoming England tour due to personal reasons, the PCB confirmed on Thursday.
Pakistan is scheduled to tour England for three Tests and as many T20Is in August-September as the matches are expected to be conducted at "bio-secure" venues without spectators.
Amir has supposedly withdrawn from the team to spend time with his wife, who is due to give birth to their second child in August. Meanwhile, Sohail will be unavailable for the international assignment as he does not travel without his family whereas they are not allowed on this trip.
Amir's absence from the national set-up stretches back to his omission from Pakistan's T20I squad for the home series against Bangladesh earlier this year.
However, chief selector and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq had stated that Amir along with Wahab Riaz, who also took an indefinite break from red-ball cricket last year, continue to remain in contention for a berth in the side.
"Amir and Wahab are senior and experienced bowlers and they remain in contention as we believe they can still contribute to the Pakistan men’s cricket team and also mentor our young battery of fast bowlers," he said a month back.
Amir was a permanent member of the Karachi Kings lineup in the Pakistan Super League before the tournament was postponed ahead of the knockout stages. He had picked 10 wickets in nine games at an economy rate of just over 7.50.
Sohail, on the other hand, has regularly been a part of Pakistan's Test team since his return from a longstanding issue of knee injury.
The left-handed middle-order batsman struck a half-century in his last Test appearance against Bangladesh during the Rawalpindi encounter in February.
His unavailability offers a chance to domestic veteran Fawad Alam to stage a comeback to the national team should the selectors consider him for the tour.
The PCB will send 28 players and a 14-man support personnel featuring new faces in the backroom staff for the Test and T20I contests against England.
The squad details, as well as the pre-series and series itinerary, will be shared by the PCB soon.
