Karachi Kings pip Islamabad United to qualify for semi-finals

Umaid Asif delivered few blows towards the end of the innings as Karachi Kings qualified for the semi-finals. This defeat also knocked Islamabad United out of contention for the semis.

Umaid smashed a six off the second last ball in the 19th over before ending the proceedings in the final over, with a straight hit over the mid-off region.

By the end of the powerplay, Karachi Kings were cruising along at 60 for 2. With the dismissal of Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam, the run flow was halted big time.

In the next 8 overs, Karachi only scored 30 runs, which allowed Islamabad United to crawl back in the game.

With the wicket turning sharply, Karachi’s batsmen couldn’t find ways to hit the gaps and transfer pressure back to the bowlers. Following the dismissal of Iftikhar Ahmed off Shadab’s bowling, Chadwick Walton struck a four and a six off Rumman Raees to ease some pressure off the home side.

With 18 required off the last two overs, Umaid Asif struck a big six over long-on off Shadab’s bowling to accumulate 13 runs in the second last over. The equation then simplified to 5 required off the last over, which was completed with a superb pick up shot from Umaid over mid-off’s head.

Earlier, Phil Salt (25 off 19) and Hussain Talat (37 off 30) provided some resistance in what turned out to be a disappointing batting performance.

Shadab Khan was exposed to a hard length from Arshad Iqbal whereas Asif Ali’s late hitting prowess didn’t come to the fore once again. Karachi’s death bowling was spot on once again with Mohammad Amir and Chris Jordan stalling the run-flow to restrict the visiting side to mere 136.
