Asad Shafiq links up with Multan Sultans for remaining PSL fixtures

Asad Shafiq has joined the Multan Sultans' squad for the remaining matches of the HBL Pakistan Super League.

Shafiq's inclusion in the Sultans' camp comes in the wake of several foreign recruits departing from the country due to the coronavirus scare. The exodus of overseas players from the league has extended to table-toppers Multan as well with James Vince and Rilee Rossouw opting out of the tournament.

Shafiq, 34, has been picked as a silver category player, marking his return to the T20 competition since the 2018 season. The middle-order batsman, who plays Tests for Pakistan, previously represented Quetta Gladiators in the league. His mediocre record in the PSL has seen him rack up 279 runs across 15 innings at a lowly strike rate of 104.88.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Omair bin Yousaf has been included in Quetta Gladiators as an emerging player to make up for the outgoing trio of Jason Roy, Tymal Mills and Keemo Paul.

The two players' entry into the showpiece event was approved by the Event Technical Committee, which includes PCB CEO Wasim Khan, Bazid Khan, Marina Iqbal, Sameer Khosa and Dr. Sohail Saleem.
