Kusal Perera named in Sri Lanka's Test squad; Thirimanne left out

Kusal Perera has been named in Sri Lanka’s Test squad for their home series against England, despite a finger injury he sustained in a recent T20I series against West Indies. Lahiru Thirimanne has been left out of the squad.

The rest of the squad is same which faced Zimbabwe for a two-match Test series in January.

Perera, the mastermind of Sri Lanka's stunning win against South Africa in Durban last year, was left out of the Test squad to face Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka's chief selector Ashantha de Mel had justified the decision by saying that the presence of Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Matthews meant that there wasn’t a spot available for the attacking batsman.

Perera last played in a Test series against New Zealand, where he scored 24 runs in a total of four innings. He was then left out for the Pakistan and Zimbabwe Tests.

The SLC also announced that they will name a replacement player for Wanindu Hasaranga, who was named as a 16th player in the squad.

The test series starts from March 19 in Galle.
