New Zealand bolstered by return of Boult, Ferguson for Australia series
Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry have all returned to New Zealand's squad for the ODI series against Australia scheduled to commence on March 13.
The pace trio were missing from action during the limited-overs assignments against India owing to various injury concerns.
Despite the absence of the first-choice pacers, New Zealand were still able to complete a thumping ODI whitewash over the Virat Kohli-led Indian side at home.
Their inclusion in the 15-man squad beefs up their pace bowling department, which also boasts the presence of rookie paceman Kyle Jamieson.
The lanky youngster shone in New Zealand's ODI and Test series sweeps over India, making an instant impact with the ball in his debut outing in the five-day format.
"He's [Jamieson] had a great start to his international career and will be a real asset for us in Australia," coach Gary Stead said.
The Black Caps have kept their faith with underperforming seamer Tim Southee, who has experienced a dip in his bowling form in white-ball cricket.
Southee's struggles have only been limited to T20Is and ODIs since he inflicted substantial damage on the Indian line-up in the recent Test series.
New Zealand's ODI clashes against Australia begin with the much-anticipated clash in Sydney. They are yet to triumph in an ODI series in Australia across 14 attempts and Stead stated the need for the experienced players to step up and put in exceptional performances.
"Playing Australia in Australia is one of the great challenges in world cricket," he said.
"We know they'll severely test us in all areas of the game."
