Shapoor Zadran returns to Afghanistan's T20I squad for Ireland series

Shapoor Zadran has staged a comeback to Afghanistan's T20I unit after making his last 20-over appearance back in June 2018.

The veteran left-arm pacer donned the national jersey last year in March and has since then spent time on the sidelines away from the team.

He has now gotten a chance to re-establish his credentials as an experienced campaigner in the team in the forthcoming three-match series against Ireland.

Zadran, who made his T20I debut in 2010, has scalped 35 wickets in 34 games at an economy rate of 7.81.

The selectors have also added uncapped all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai in the line-up for the series.

The teenage prodigy is touted as a bright future prospect and his exceptional record in the domestic circuit validates the selectors' claims.

Opening batsman Usman Ghani was left out of the recent limited-overs contests against West Indies but is now back in the squad.

Leg-spinner Qais Ahmad has already developed the reputation of being a T20 globetrotter and has been rewarded for his profitable Big Bash League stint with a place in the Afghan side for the T20Is. He has thus far represented his team on the international arena in just one Test.

Afghanistan chief selector Andy Moles assured improved fitness standards maintained by hard-hitting batsman Hazratullah Zazai. Although boasting a strike rate of 162.69 in T20Is, the belligerent southpaw has often attracted criticism for his slow reflexes in the field.

“We have selected the current best T20 players and hopefully they will do better against Ireland," Moles added.

The T20I series will kick off on March 6 with the last encounter set to take place on March 10. All the matches between the No. 7 Afghanistan and 14th-ranked Ireland will be conducted at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground, India.
