PSL 2020: Usman Shinwari moves to Lahore Qalandars in pre-season transfer
Usman Shinwari will be plying his trade for Lahore Qalandars in the 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after representing Karachi Kings in the previous three seasons.
The left-arm paceman has become the first player to be transferred ahead of the PSL 2020 as he was listed among the six cricketers who agreed to drop one category through the relegation request process.
The event regulations allow for a team to send in a regulation request that is then shared with the other five franchises based on the player's consent.
"Based on the teams’ expression of interests, the player’s existing team is then given time to either retain the player in his original category or release him to the team willing to match the player’s registered category" according to the PCB press release.
Here, the Qalandars matched Shinwari's relegation request which means he has been transferred to the team managing to retain his Diamond category value.
The 25-year-old shot to prominence with a blazing five-wicket haul in 21 deliveries in just his second ODI two years ago.
He boasts impressive numbers in the 50-over format with 34 wickets in 17 games at an average of 18.61 whereas his PSL record is equally competent with 35 scalps from 27 matches at 21.65.
Perpetual underperformers Qalandars have finished at the bottom of the points table since the inception of the league and would be hoping the selection of Shinwari will lead to a change in their fortunes.
The five other players who have been relegated following their request include:
Imam-ul-Haq (Peshawar Zalmi, diamond to gold)
Junaid Khan (Multan Sultans, diamond to gold)
Salman Butt (Lahore Qalandars, gold to silver)
Shan Masood (Multan Sultans, gold to silver)
Umar Amin (Peshawar Zalmi, gold to silver)
