David Miller signs with Hobart Hurricanes for BBL 09

David Miller will turn out for Hobart Hurricanes in the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League.

The explosive South Africa batsman will be available for all of his BBL franchise's 14 home and away games before returning to his country for the series against England next year.

Miller has earned a reputation as an explosive power-hitter with his batting heroics frequently witnessed in white-ball cricket.

While this will mark his maiden BBL stint, Miller has pleasant memories of prolific outings in Hobart's home ground.

He smashed 139 off just 108 deliveries at Blundstone Arena in 2018 to take his team over the line against hosts Australia.

The 30-year-old middle-order batsman adds batting depth to the Hurricanes lineup since Matthew Wade, D'Arcy Short and Ben McDermott are expected to be engaged in international duty amidst the BBL season.

Miller, who has carved out a name for himself in the Indian Premier League, joins Afghanistan's leg-spin sensation Qais Ahmad as the club's second foreign recruit this year.

Miller possesses a voluminous experience of 294 T20 games and is currently playing in South Africa's T20 competition - Mzansi Super League.

“It’s very exciting to welcome a player of David’s calibre to the Hurricanes,” Nick Cummins, Cricket Tasmania CEO, told the team's website.

“We’ve built a reputation as a destination club amongst internationals, and we are confident David’s hard-hitting batting will give our members and fans great entertainment, and possibly a few opportunities to catch a six!”

“We expect to lose some batting experience throughout the season, so David will provide valuable runs in our drive to our third successive finals campaign,” he added.

Hobart have never been able to claim the prestigious BBL title and were knocked out in the semi-finals in the previous edition of the tournament.
