Yuvraj Singh confirmed as Maratha Arabians’ Indian icon player in Abu Dhabi T10 League
Yuvraj Singh has been named the Maratha Arabians’ Indian icon player for the upcoming Abu Dhabi T10 League scheduled to commence on November 15.
Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) bars active Indian cricketers from participating in overseas franchise-based tournaments, this rule is not applicable to Yuvraj.
“It is an exciting new format to be part of. I am looking forward to joining forces with some of the world’s biggest names in this league and representing team Maratha Arabians," the 37-year-old stated in a press release.
Yuvraj will be joining the likes of Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo in the star-studded Maratha Arabians squad coached by former England head coach Andy Flower.
"It is going to be a thrilling time for the game of cricket. It's heartwarming to see leagues like T10 putting in so much hard work and offering such exciting format for sports enthusiasts," he added.
Following his retirement, Yuvraj turned out for Toronto Nationals in the Global T20 Canada, captaining the side to the Eliminators.
He had a productive outing with the bat, scoring 153 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 145.71 including a half-century against Brampton Wolves.
His stint with Mumbai Indians in the IPL earlier this year saw him make a miserly sum of 98 runs in four games.
Yuvraj's addition to the Maratha Arabians' line-up is a major boost to the team as they would be hoping to improve upon their semi-final finish last season.
The southpaw's notable power hitting credentials bolster the side's explosive batting combination featuring Chris Lynn, Hazratullah Zazai and Najibullah Zadran.
