Malik, Tahir give invincible Warriors comprehensive win over Tallawahs
Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper Shoaib Malik led from the front to drive a splendid recovery after his side was reduced to 8-4 in the second over as the table-toppers achieved their ninth successive win of the season.
Jamaica Tallawahs' new-ball pair Oshane Thomas and Derval Green were both on a hat-trick at one stage with the Warriors in dire straits.
Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran all were dismissed for single-digit scores but Malik alongside Sherfane Rutherford added 82 runs for the fifth wicket.
The early collapse did little to deter Malik from lavish stroke-making as he struck an unbeaten 73 off 45 deliveries to take his team to a respectable total of 156-6 by the end of 20 overs.
Malik accelerated his scoring rate towards the latter half of the Warriors innings, smashing five fours and two sixes during his alluring knock.
Great recovery from the Warriors who had slumped to 8-4 at the start of their innings. Can they post a winning score. #GAWvJT #CPL19 #CricketPlayedLouder #BiggestPartyInSport pic.twitter.com/Q8m5C3IIrc— CPL T20 (@CPL) October 4, 2019
Later, he opted to attack the Tallawahs batting with spin upfront when Chris Green clean bowled Chris Gayle on the first ball of the chase.
Regular wickets pegged back any semblance of a repair job for the visitors with Qais Ahmad and Imran Tahir sharing five scalps between them.
Jamaica lost their final seven wickets for a paltry sum of 15 runs as they were eventually dismissed for 79 in the 17th over – their eighth loss in this CPL edition.
Malik capped off his remarkable performance in the match by fittingly taking the final wicket of last man Zahir Khan.
