Paine backs Warner to keep his spot for Pakistan Tests

Tim Paine has backed David Warner to keep his spot for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan despite a mediocre run in the Ashes.

Warner had all sorts of troubles against Broad from round the wicket, dismissing him seven times while Archer nipped him out three times.

There have been plenty of questions whether Warner will keep his place in the side for Australia’s home summer but Paine has backed the opener to keep his spot at the top of the order.

Paine’s support comes from the fact that Warner averages a superb 59.64 on home soil.

"I think he is," Paine told 7News when asked whether Warner is sure to hold his spot for the first Test of the home season against Pakistan.

"I think he’s got enough credits in the bank. We know how good a player he is. Opening the batting in England can be really difficult, particularly if you’re a left-hander and Stuart Broad’s bowling at you.

"That was a difficult period for David (but) the way he was around our group as a senior player was outstanding.

"It’s easy to do that when you’re going well but to have him still upbeat and still pushing others to get better when he was going through a rough patch himself was great to see."
