Brathwaite's heroics pulls off stunning Super Over win for Patriots

Carlos Brathwaite played a knock for the ages before conceding just five runs in the tiebreaker to help St Kitts and Nevis Patriots achieve a thrilling win over defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders.

Brathwaite's all-round brilliance, both in actual play and later in the Super Over, finally broke Trinbago's four-match winning streak.

The Patriots skipper starred with a 30-ball 64 in his side's chase of the steep target of 217.

Coming into bat with the home side requiring in excess of 12 runs per over, Brathwaite turned the tide with a breathtaking display of pristine striking.

The 31-year-old smashed four maximums and six boundaries during his breezy knock but his dismissal left St Kitts and Nevis in a precarious position still needing 44 from 19 deliveries.

Rayad Emrit then took all-rounder Jimmy Neesham to the cleaners in the final over of the innings to tie scores at the end of the allotted 20 overs.

Brathwaite returned to hammer in the advantage for Patriots as he slammed two sixes on his way to accumulating 18 runs for Patriots in the Super Over.

He then took it upon himself to deliver the last six deliveries of the match, taking a wicket on the second ball of the over.

Persisting with the fuller length, Brathwaite gave little room to opposing team's captain Kieron Pollard to free his arms and conceded just five runs as Patriots triumphed by 13 runs in the dramatic CPL clash.

Earlier, Lendl Simmons hit a blazing 90 off 45 balls that set the tone for Trinbago's march towards a commanding total.

All Patriots bowlers suffered the wrath of his sublime batting performance with only Alzarri Joseph going under 10 runs an over.
