PSL 2019: Finds of the tournament

The Pakistan Super League has fast-tracked a lot of players from domestic cricket and given them a bigger stage to showcase their skill set. The likes of Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman and Hasan Ali impressed when given an opportunity but this time around, plenty of express fast bowlers have grabbed the attention.

Here are a few players who could go on to represent Pakistan in the coming years.

Haris Rauf

Haris was fast-tracked to Lahore Qalandars side through their talent-hunt programme. He can generate a lot of pace from a relatively short run-up but possesses an exceptional ability to bowl yorkers. His top performance came against Karachi Kings in his fourth T20, when he was adjudged player of the match for his exceptional figures of 4 for 23. He ended the season with 11 wickets at an economy rate of 7.41.

Mohammad Hasnain

One of the most exciting talents to come through, Hasnain’s heroics in the Pakistan Super League have already earned him a call-up for the ODIs against Australia. His dismissal of Keiron Pollard in the PSL final shows that he has an ability to bowl a great short ball. The 18-year-old took 12 wickets in seven games at an economy rate of 7.53.

Umer Khan

With plenty of fast bowlers dominating the list, Umer Khan is the only spinner to have impressed everyone with the amount of skill set he has. He troubled almost every single batsman in the tournament and his spell against Islamabad United in the first eliminator was one of the best from a young spinner. The lines, lengths and the control of pace from him was exceptional. His 15 dismissals in the PSL 2019 include the likes of Shane Watson (twice), AB de Villiers, Umar Akmal, James Vince, Rilee Rossouw and other top batsmen, and was rightly adjudged the emerging player of the season.

Mohammad Musa

The 18-year-old fast bowler from Islamabad impressed everyone by the pace at which he can bowl. Musa had a decent tournament with eight wickets in seven games though his economy rate (10.21) is on the higher side. He has an impressive yorker, which comes in handy especially in the death overs of limited overs cricket. With plenty of cricket left in him, Musa surely has the potential to represent Pakistan at the highest level.

Ahsan Ali

With plenty of fast bowlers coming through the ranks in PSL, Ahsan Ali is someone who has shown a glimpse of what he can do with the bat. With a strike rate of around 131 in eight matches, Ahsan can strike the ball hard square of the wicket as well as hit fairly good length balls over mid-wicket with a lot of ease. It’ll be interesting to see if he remains in the selectors’ radar with plenty of spots already grabbed.
