Quetta send Multan packing as Tanvir, Bravo star
Quetta Gladiators defeated Multan Sultans by six wickets, dealing a major blow to Multan's chances of progressing to the next round.
Quetta chased down a target of 122 with an over to spare. But the momentum was shifted earlier in the day courtesy brilliant bowling from Dwayne Bravo (3-19) and Sohail Tanvir (3-19).
After being asked to bat first, Multan were bowled out for 121 despite being 75-2 around the half-way mark. But a collapse followed as the Sultans lost their next eight wickets for 46 runs. After the early wickets of James Vince and Umar Siddiq, Johnson Charles provided impetus to the Sultans' innings with a 36-ball 46. Shoaib Malik (21 off 24 balls) tried to see through the middle overs but once Charles fell in the 12th over, it was all downhill for the bottom-placed Sultans.
In reply, Shane Watson and Ahsan Ali provided a blazing start to Quetta before Watson fell for 33 off 25 balls after adding 49 runs for the first-wicket partnership. He was bowled by Shahid Afridi, who did the same to Ali (17) an over later. Ahmed Shahzad, who returned to the side after being sidelined for the past few games, scored scratchy 28 off 35 balls along with in-form Rilee Rossouw (35) to weed out any demons. Rossouw was run out in the 16th over courtesy a direct hit from Mohammad Ilyas before Umar Akmal perished for a duck.
But Dwayne Bravo along with Shahzad saw Quetta home safely to register their fifth win of the season.
Bravo was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant figures of three for 19.
