Shaheen, Haris help Lahore down Karachi by 22 runs
Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi grabbed six wickets to power Lahore Qalanadars to a 22-run win on day three of the Pakistan Super League.
Rauf grabbed 4-23 while Shaheen returned with figures of 2-20 as Karachi Kings failed to chase down a modest 139-run target. Both Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam couldn’t kick on as the pressure kept on mounting.
The start from the previous match, Liam Livingstone, was dismissed for 11 in the second over of the run chase. Shaheen accounted for Livingstone as the Lancashire batsman went for an almighty heave but missed it completely.
Babar and Rizwan added 47 for the second wicket but the dot ball pressure meant the wheels started to come off.
Rain briefly halted play with Karachi Kings 14 behind on Duckworth-Lewis par score. When the play resumed, Shaheen bowled a superb over, conceding just two runs and dismissing Colin Ingram for 16.
Rauf wreaked havoc with his devastating spell, bowling Rizwan when he went for an attempted scoop and then having Imad Wasim caught in the deep. Next ball, dismissed Sohail Khan with a full, fast, in-swinging delivery but couldn’t achieve his hat-trick as Mohammad Amir safely kept things out.
Karachi Kings were eventually bowled out for 116 with one ball to spare.
Earlier, openers Sohail Akhtar (39) and Fakhar Zaman (26) were the major contributors for Qalandars while Anton Devcich struck a 30-ball 28 as Lahore went on to score 138-6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Young left-arm spinner Umer Khan finished with impressive figures of 2-25 in his four overs while Mohammad Amir and Raza took wicket apiece.
Umer's prized wicket was that of AB de Villiers who holed out in the deep, miscuing a slog sweep as the left-armer followed de Villiers, denying him of any space.
Lahore Qalandars will now lock horns with Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday.
