Sarfraz was handed a four-match suspension by the International Cricket Council following his racist comments directed towards South Africa all-rounder Andile Phelukwayo.
Great decision by @TheRealPCB to appoint Sarfaraz Ahmed captain for World Cup. Sarfaraz has proved himself as a leader and should get total support from everyone. This is an ideal opportunity for him to make a memorable contribution. Go well Saifi! ??????— Shahid Afridi (@SAfridiOfficial) February 5, 2019
Change of guard
Two-time Pakistan Super League champions Islamabad United have opted for veteran fast bowler Mohammad Sami as their captain for the fourth edition of the competition, which starts on February 14.
Mohammad Sami has been part of the franchise from the very start and has 37 scalps in 27 matches to his name.
Mohammad Sami is @IsbUnited’s new captain, he desrves it more than anyone else for the loyalty & hardwork he has put in for us + his T20 captaincy record is pretty good. @76Shadabkhan is the vice-captain & is one for the future. Congratulations to both. #UnitedWeWin— Rehan Ulhaq (@Rehan_ulhaq) February 4, 2019
Leg-spinner Shadab Khan was announced as vice-captain of the current champions.
West Indies skipper Jason Holder has been suspended for the third and final Test against England after his team was found guilty of slow over-rate in Antigua last week.
Jason Holder suspended for the third Test due to slow over-rate. Once again cricket gets out the blunderbuss, takes aim at its own foot and pulls the trigger...— Ali Martin (@Cricket_Ali) February 3, 2019
Holder had previously been found guilty of a minor over-rate offence during the Barbados Test against Sri Lanka last year.
Gayle back in the reckoning
West Indies have recalled stalwart batsman Chris Gayle and hard-hitting opening batsman Evin Lewis for the first two ODIs against England.
39-year-old Gayle last played for West Indies during their home series against Bangladesh in July last year.
Mujeeb left out
Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been omitted from Afghanistan's 14-man Test squad against Ireland. The other significant omission was opener Mohammad Shahzad, who was not considered in their T20I squad. He was included to play the ODIs and the one-off Test match.
The two teams will lock horns in all three formats from February 21.
