Philippe, Vince thump Hobart Hurricanes
Josh Philippe fired Sydney Sixers to a thumping nine-wicket win over the Hobart Hurricanes to reinforce their Big Bash League credentials.
Philippe struck an unbeaten 86 off 49 balls as Sixers chased down the Hurricanes' impressive target of 173 in just 17.1 overs.
The Sixers were reeling at 1-6 after James Faulkner struck with just the fourth ball of the innings to remove Daniel Hughes.
However, Philippe and James Vince with 74 not out (off 50 balls) put on a game-turning partnership.
Phillipe struck nine fours and three sixes during a swashbuckling innings in which he hit the Hurricanes attack to all corners of the park.
Earlier, Matthew Wade sent another message to the Australian selectors with his fourth half-century of the tournament – 64 off 51 balls – which followed on from his 84 not out in the Hurricanes' 10-wicket away thumping of the Adelaide Strikers just two days earlier.
Wade and D'Arcy Short helped the Hurricanes get off to a flying start with 32 from 26 balls.
Wade and Ben McDermott put on 67 runs for the third wicket partnership to put their side in a commanding position, after being sent in to bat by the Sixers - however they had no answer for Philippe.
George Bailey also made an impressive batting cameo with 22 not out from just 9 deliveries, including two boundaries and a six.
