Scorecard & ball-by-ball: Melbourne Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes - Match 23 - Docklands

An all-round show from the Melbourne Renegades floored Hobart Hurricanes to earn their third win of the season. The defeat is the first for the table-toppers Hurricanes after a streak of five games.

Asked to bat first, Hurricanes had a torrid start as they lost the top three wickets in seven deliveries. Kane Richardson removed Mathew Wade and Alex Doolan off consecutive deliveries – both caught behind – before Usman Shinwari removed D’Arcy Short with a catch of his own bowling.

But then Ben McDermott and George Bailey combined for a 102-partnership to take Hurricanes out of mess and lay a foundation for a respectable total. McDermott smashed 50 off 43 balls while Bailey smashed an unbeaten 70 off 53 balls.

Hurricanes finished with 145/5. Richardson was the pick of the bowlers for Renegades with the figures of three for 38.

In reply, Renegades didn’t lose the course despite the early dismissal of Mackenzie Harvey. Skipper Aaron Finch – back from the national duty after being dropped for the Sydney Test against India – added 64 runs for the second-wicket partnership with wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Harper. Harper was trapped in-front by Clive Rose for 32 before Finch was run out for 42.

Tom Cooper didn’t last long either, falling for almost run-a-ball 14. Dan Christian joined Mohammad Nabi in the middle with 28 needed off last four. The pair added 11 in the next two, leaving 17 off the last two overs. But two consecutive sixes from Christian in the penultimate over eased the way, and Nabi sealed the match off the second ball of last over.

Rose returned with the figures of one for 15 in his quota of four overs.

Sam Harper was adjudged Player of the match for his two catches and 32 runs.
