Fakhar doubtful for first South Africa Test after aggravated knee injury
Opening batsman Fakhar Zaman’s participation in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa has come under doubt after he aggravated a knee injury sustained last month.
According to the PCB, the left-handed batsman is expected to be out for "three to five" weeks, which means he will likely miss the first of the three Tests that begins on Boxing Day in Centurion.
Zaman alongside Shadab were left out of Pakistan’s squad for first two Tests against New Zealand as they were rested and advised to undergo training at the National Cricket Academy. Both were expected to comeback for the decisive Test but selectors opted to retain the same squad.
Fakhar scored 94 and 68 on his Test debut against Australia which paved the way for his side’s 373-run win to clinch the two-match series 1-0.
Pakistan will play three Tests, five ODIs, and three T20Is on their tour of South Africa which kicks off with a Boxing Day Test in Centurion.
