Kerr, Watkin guide New Zealand to first win of the tournament
New Zealand got the better of the Pakistan side in the 14th game of the Women’s World T20 as 144/6 proved quite big task for the Pakistan team.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Pakistan couldn’t make early inroads as Devine and Bates stitched 59 runs for the opening partnership. Bates was dismissed by Nida Dar as the batter attempted to cut the ball but it stopped on him, returning a simple catch to the bowler.
Devine was dismissed in the 13th over but Satterthwaite and Martin put on enough to challenge Pakistan batters. Sana Mir and Aliya Riaz triggered a New Zealand collapse but NZ got to 144 by the end of 20 overs.
In reply, Javeria Khan got Pakistan off to flying start but she got very little support from her fellow team-mates. Kerr and Watkin did most of the damage with three wickets each. Pakistan were rolled over for 90 in just 18 overs.
New Zealand had no chance of reaching the semi-final, but they could take pride in a win. This was Pakistan’s last match of the tournament, they finished with one win in four games.
