Highlights: Sanga’s 70* trump Misbah’s 84*, Botha’s heroic 65

Galaxy Gladiators Lantau beat Hong Kong Island United by 8 wickets


Misbah-ul-Haq’s 50-ball 84 went in vain as Galaxy Gladiators Lantau’s captain Anshuman Rath and Kumar Sangakkara scored 53 and 70 respectively to beat Hong Kong Island United by eight wickets.


Asked to bat first, United lost their batsmen on the top of the order in quick succession. Their first three batters were back in the pavilion by 6.4 overs when United had managed 48 runs.


Misbah remained unbeaten once again and amassed runs for his side, but failed to get any support from the other end. Only three more batsmen - Jamie Atkinson, Munir Dar, and Dan Pascoe – managed to enter the double figures as United scored 177 for 7 in 20 overs.


Despite losing Azeem Rafiq on the fifth ball of the run chase, Lantau never lost the momentum. They lost Jessie Ryder in the seventh over when the New Zealand international was stumped off Samuel Badree after scored a quickfire 41 off 23 balls.


Rath and Sangakkara paired up for 109 runs and won the match for Lantau in 19 overs.


Hung Hom Jaguars beat Kowloon Cantons by 18 runs


South Africa’s Johan Botha inspired Hung Hom Jaguars to 18-run win over Kowloon Cantons in the sixth match of the ongoing Hong Kong Twenty20 Blitz on Friday.


Being put into bat, Jaguars’ lost wickets front-up, surrendering the momentum to Cantons. Jonathan Foo scored run-a-ball 34, the only notable contribution in the top-order.


Botha, who came into bat at number six, spanked 65 runs from 37 balls with the help of 10 boundaries. The 34-year-old hit eight 4s and two 6s to help his side post a respectable 164 for 9. He was removed by T20 specialist allrounder Yasir Arafat, who bagged three wickets for 27 runs in four overs.


Calum Macleod scored a match defining 45 at one-drop for Kowloon Cantons. The 28-year-old Scottish batsman anchored the run chase before falling in the 16th over when his side cruised towards the target at 111 for 3.


The match went into the last over with Cantons being victorious.
