PAK vs SL, 1st ODI, Pakistan v Sri Lanka ODI Series 2019, 27 Sept 2019

Result

Match abandoned

The much-awaited ODI series opener got ruined due to heavy rain and inadequate drainage facilities—the latter worsened the situation. Wet outfield forced the umpires to call off the game within two hours from the scheduled start of the play.

There were giant puddles of water in the outfield which would have required many hours for the groundsmen to drain. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), considering the forecast for more rain this weekend, has postponed the second ODI to Monday and the third ODI to Wednesday respectively.

Cricket starved inhabitants of Karachi will have to wait a little longer for international cricket's resumption. It will be a major event as far as the efforts to restore top-level cricket are concerned after the appalling attack on Sri Lanka team in 2009.

Beefed up security was witnessed as both teams reached the idyllic National Stadium Karachi well before the match time but much to the dismay of players, they had to return back to the hotel after the downpour.

After the conclusion of ODI series, the two teams will travel to Lahore and lock horns in the glitzy Twenty20 series from October 5.
