Peshawar Zalmi leapfrogged Quetta Gladiators to finish as the table-topper with a 61-run thumping of Karachi Kings in the last game of the group stage of PSL 2019.
After openers Kamran Akmal and Imam-ul-Haq powered Peshawar to 203 for seven after being asked to bat first, their pace battery ripped apart the Karachi batting to complete a comprehensive win.
Chasing a mountainous target of 204, Karachi fell apart right from the start with Colin Munro (0), Babar Azam (13) and Liam Livingstone (6) back in the hut with only 22 runs on the board. Colin Ingram tried to halt the slide but wickets kept tumbling at the other end before Imad Wasim joined him in the middle. The duo added 38 runs for the sixth wicket partnership but once Ingram (71 off 37) fell, it was all downhill from there. Imad was the second-highest run-getter for the home side with 30 runs off 25 balls. Karachi were bowled out for 142 in 16.2 overs.
Hasan Ali took three while Wahab Riaz, Tymal Mills and Sameen Gul shared two wickets each.
Earlier, Kamran Akmal (86) and Imam-ul-Haq (59) laid a solid 137-run first-wicket foundation for the Zalmi middle-order to take them past 200. Although there was no significant performance from anyone besides the openers, small cameos helped Peshawar post a massive total.
Kamran Akmal was adjudged man of the match for his blistering 48-ball 86.
