KK won by 7 runs

Liam Livingstone, Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir stood out as Karachi Kings edged Multan Sultans by just seven runs in the second match of the Pakistan Super League.

After winning the toss, Karachi Kings opted to bat first on a fairly decent track. Liam Livingstone and Babar Azam formed a solid opening partnership at the top of the order for their side as the duo smashed Sultans’ bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Livingstone was equally impressive in his stroke play and his game against spin was a treat to watch.

Babar (77 off 59) and Livingstone (82 off 43) then went on to put on the highest opening partnership with a 157-run stand. As soon as Livingstone was dismissed off Chris Green’s off-spin, Karachi’s run-rate was halted.

Karachi lost six wickets for 26 runs as they could only muster 183 after getting off to a blazing start.

In reply, Shoaib Malik's 28-ball 52 and Laurie Evans's 39-ball 49 gave Multan some hopes of a win after a slow start but Mohammad Amir took four wickets in a return-to-form spell for 25 runs to ensure the victory for his side.

Malik upped the tempo after Multan were well short on the run-rate with just 59 runs in the first ten overs. Malik added 72 for the third wicket with Evans before a crucial run out broke the stand in the 15th over.

Multan’s captain decided to take on Bopara’s gentle medium pace. He struck four boundaries and a six in the 14th over which yielded 24 runs. It reduced the equation to 60 in five overs but Malik holed out to Usman Shinwari with 45 needed for victory in 3.3 overs.

Multan needed 20 off the last two overs but Amir conceded just four and dismissed Afridi to bring Karachi back in the match.

Sohail Khan then defended 16 in the last over as Karachi edged Multan by seven runs.
