The 33rd game of the 2018-19 BBL between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder at the Gabba ended as a no-result due to a major power failure in Brisbane.

Following three overs into the run-chase, one of the floodlights stopped working, leaving players and officials in disarray and despite a one-hour long wait, there was no improvement in the situation leading the umpires to call off the game.

Both Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat shared a point making it the first no result game of the season.

Earlier, Shane Watson slammed the first century of BBL 08, continuing his good form from the last game against the Strikers. The Thunder skipper opted to bat first on a flat pitch and he was proved right almost instantly as the Sydney side, for the first time this season, remained wicket less during the power play amassing 55 runs while at it.

Watson's batting partner, Devcich got out soon after the power play, but Callum Ferguson played a perfect supporting role, as the pair notched up a vital 64-run stand for the second wicket and thereby, setting the perfect platform for a final flourish.

The 37-year old hammered eight fours and six maximums in his 62-ball 100. Sixers posted a mammoth 186 by the end of 20 overs.

The Heat weren’t off to a great start as they lost the Bash Brothers inside 16 balls and just when things looked bleak, the malfunction of one of the floodlights led to the game being called off, denying the Thunder a well-deserved crack at winning the game.
